Why DowPlay
Real engineering inside
Every game runs a real model: circuit analysis, gear trains, forces in a bridge, an hour-by-hour power grid.
From Year 8 to Year 13
Levels get harder as students do: the first suit 12-year-olds, the last stretch A-level students.
Any device, nothing to install
Runs in the browser on Chromebooks, iPads, laptops and phones. No accounts to manage.
Free and private
No sign-up, no ads and no chat. Progress is saved only on the device being used.

How the games work
Short levels with a clear goal, so students learn by trying, failing and fixing.
Read the brief
Each level is a real job: light every room, lift a heavy load, get a lorry across a river, keep a town powered all night.
Build and test
Place wires, gears, beams or solar farms, then press play. The game works out what really happens.
Find out why
If a design fails, the game shows the reason: a fuse blows, a beam buckles, the batteries run flat. Fix it and go for three stars.

Topics from secondary science, physics and design & technology.
Bridge and structures games
Design bridges that carry real loads, then watch where they bend, buckle or snap. These games cover forces, triangles and trusses, tension and compression, buckling, bending and choosing materials.
Gears and machines games
Link gears to make machines turn faster, slower, the other way or with more force. These games cover gear ratios, idler and compound gears, speed and torque, rack and pinion, power and efficiency.
Energy and power grid games
Keep a town powered every hour of the day with solar, wind, batteries and backup. These games cover supply and demand, power and energy, renewables, energy storage, emissions and sustainability.
Electricity and circuit games
Wire up houses, lamps and appliances, and see why some bulbs glow brighter than others. These games cover complete circuits, series and parallel, voltage, current and resistance, Ohm’s law, fuses and potential dividers, from Year 8 up to A-level.
Free lesson plans and worksheets for every game
Each game covers one topic from secondary science, physics and design & technology. Share a link and the class can start in seconds, then use the free teacher pack to plan the lesson.
- Two 60-minute lesson plans per game
